the power of a seed - words and pictures
golden teacher

my golden teacher
you talk of planets, time and space
destruction and rebirth
your hands dancing in air
as flames illuminate your face
distant cars flash orange rectangles
through conifer spines
I poke the fire as geese land on the lake
and honk their delight
and now you talk of Jupiter saving our earth
from meteor attack and the rise of mankind
from the bottom of seas
jet-sized pterodactyls swooping on dinosaurs
feeding on mushrooms the size of trees
and i look to the night sky and listen
i listen
as psylocibin serotonin turns wonder into smile
sweeps recently surfaced doubts with the brush of love
and up splash pike into the crisp air of night
how deep is that water? you ask
will you let me swim?
yearning for warm safety of womb
evolution reversed through the pull of the moon
dragging the tide to when we crawled out from seas
celestial searching wavelengths of light
ten thousand years and a million miles
deaths and rebirths and giants at war
raging infernos before mankind was born
i ask you a question and you talk of your self
orange turns into green and purple intense
you acknowledge your dark side
depression and death
and the flames turn blue
but you don’t sink into depths
burning wood cracks reptilian white
two humbled beings on the curve of the earth
we crawl up mud and huddle overnight
in our tiny space in this giant universe
and we keep ourselves warm in each other’s arms
and sleep while the owl calls its wise call
